California Sober Living Homes & Transitional Aftercare Housing

Los Angeles | Orange County | Palm Springs | San Diego | San Francisco Bay Area | Malibu

California Sober Living Homes in Los Angeles, San Diego, Orange County, Malibu, Palm Springs and San Francisco Bay Area

The State of California is the single largest market for sober living homes and transitional housing locations worldwide.  It is believed that in Los Angeles County alone there exists over 300 sober living residences.  Whether you are completing treatment and looking to make a healthy transition into a proactive recovery-type setting or maybe are struggling a bit and needing help in rebuilding a strong foundation, moving into this type of location can be a wonderful decision…assuming you're serious about sobriety.

California is basically broken up into southern and northern regions.  The northern consist of everything north of Sacramento including San Francisco, Oakland, San Jose, the entire bay area, Napa , etc.  Southern California is much larger and more populated and includes; Los Angeles, Ventura County, Malibu, Palm Springs, Orange County and San Diego, CA.  In addition to having somewhere in the ballpark of 1,000 sober living locations statewide, California features everything from extremely affordable residences starting as low as $350 to $400 per month on up to some of the most lavish, luxury sober living residences costing in excess of 10 to 15 thousand per month!  While Malibu, CA has become the most prominent region for these types of locations, they existent quite plentifully in many other regions as well.

Luxury and Affordable Sober Livings in CAThere are a variety of very important questions to consider prior to deciding on a particular sober living home.  Whether you're seeking an affordable, mid-range or luxury type service, it's important to understand that health insurance companies do not pay for sober living, or at least not at the time of publishing this page, therefore, the cost question is definitely a key element.  Some other questions to consider asking might be:

  • How structured is the sober living residence?  For instance, are there any mandatory in-house meetings, curfews, sponsorship requirements, overnight absence restrictions, etc?
  • Is 12-Step meeting attendance required, and if so then how many per week?
  • What does the monthly cost include?
  • What types of recovery support groups are in the immediate vicinity?

COMMENTS:

I have been to several sober living homes over the course of my addiction and none were nearly as affordable, nice, and as well-kept as these homes!  First of all it only costs $140 per week and unlike most other sober sober livings, the people consistently stay sober.  I live at the Valley Village location and the manager Simon is simply amazing…caring, concerned, respectful, professional, diplomatic, etc.  They provide all the freedom I need for work & family but still afford me with a safe & nurturing environment at a cost that is far less than most other sober living homes of this caliber.

I DEFINITELY RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!!

COMMENTS:

Hi, This was exactly what I needed. A safe, secure structured environment where I could focus on my recovery. This place is good in that it teaches you structure and responsibility. Fred is very hands on. He's tough but fair and I feel like he was very generous with me and with other people there. He would take us to meetings. He has gone out of his way to pick people up from court and from their PO's office. The staff is cool too. They all try really hard. The place is clean and the back were the book study is done is really nice with a cool vibe. Lots of tiki lights. This was what I needed to get back on my feet. The random drug testing really kept me on my toes too, but this is place about the individual and they really try to help you. Thanks, Dalia

COMMENTS:

It has been a pleasure working with Meg Higgins over the past three years. I first met Meg when she was looking for someone to help her clients with a DBT skills group. Over the years I have seen her work with clients, families, referents and staff in a variety of situations. Her consistency, compassion and professionalism embody the essence of her personal recovery and work effort. Meg continually goes above and beyond to help those in need. Whether it be to find the best treatment program, sober living, therapist, psychiatrist or other mental health or medical professional,I have seen her tirelessly search for the best program or professional that will best meet the needs of her client. What sets Meg apart is she always looks for the best fit that will enhance her client's recovery while falling within the parameters set forth by the family. I really can't say enough about her. Meg has been a joy to work with and I look forward to working with her for many more years to come.

OVERALL EXPERIENCE (1-5): 5

COMMENTS:

I came to Palm springs with absolute fear and uncertainty as I went into rehab to release myself from the bond that addiction had placed on my life and all of the relationships in my life. I went through a rehab that placed me in a city and state I had no knowledge of, no friends, no idea of how I was going to make it once I left rehab. My counselor told me that instead of moving back home, where I thought I'd be safe and my family would definitely take care of me and I could just sit on my behind and never have to deal with real life, that I should seriously consider a sober living. After looking at several different places I found Palm Springs Sober Living. I was very pleased at the first sight of the property in comparison to other places I had checked out. The supportive environment allowed me to learn how to be around other people without being angry and sad. I learned a lot about how important it was to regain a routine in my life and how constant contact with other sober people at meetings and at home helped me to calm down. As of today, I once again have my own place, I pay my own bills, have my own car, and I work part time, something I was certain I'd never do again. I built many bonds and friendships along the way that I hope to never loose. Even since I have moved out, I feel very welcome here at the house and I return to visit with friends quite frequently. We still see each other at meetings and know we can count on each other at anytime!!!!

I feel that the foundation they helped me to acquire within my personal and recovery growth has been more than I or my family could've ever asked for. They are just so greatful to have a sober, loving, self sufficient daughter back in their life!!!!

COMMENTS:

I moved men and women into Uncle Dave's houses with my A.A. sponsor for a few years without ever meeting the man. The places were well maintained and the management seemed nice enough. August 2011 I was in dire need of a place to stay and having only 10 months of sobriety I decided to contact the only place I knew, Uncle Dave's. At the time I only had General Relief to live on and his ads said that the rent was $500 a month. My GR was only $220. I called the number listed and told him of my problem and that I can only pay so much but I'm a general contractor by trade and I could fix or replace anything in way of plumbing, electrical, carpentry, etc. He gladly invited me to come and talk with him. When I first met him he put me right at ease being a person in recovery as well. After telling my tale he agreed to let me move in and work for him for the rest of my rent. He did not take advantage of my skills which left me plenty of time to pursue my ongoing work search. When I found employment I still worked for him on jobs that need to be done for which he was grateful even offering to pay. I have since moved out but during my stay there I made friends with quite a few of the men which I still keep in contact with today. I am also in touch with Uncle Dave weekly as he took my to his men's stag meeting which I still attended. I will be forever grateful to Uncle Dave and his home for my time there.

COMMENTS:

First Step Sober Living is a great place for men to recover from drug and alcohol addiction. I have been in and out of recovery for the past 5 years and had struggled with addiction to opiates and other drugs since I was about 15 years old. First Step was a great place for me to live in and gain a foundation in my recovery. The home is very beautiful and the owner really helped me out a lot with all sorts of different issues that I came across. I definitely recommend any addict struggling in San Diego to take a look at firststepsoberliving.com and give the owner a call. My life has completely transformed since the day I moved in.

Moving into TLC ten months ago has been a blessing. When I think what’s happening to me with regard to TLC, three words come to mind; opportunity, change, and responsibility. I’ve learned how to be responsible, to experience positive change, by following rules, taking direction, and leading by example. The standards and examples that have come and gone and that are still here showed me how to apply responsibility and experience progress. I’m blessed to have this opportunity and continue new ones as I move forward.

The four months I stayed at the Lakehouse and it turned out to be one of the most fulfilling and worthwhile experiences of my life. I arrived feeling completely broken and hopeless, but left with a whole new outlook on life, an amazing support network and some people with whom I am sure I will be lifelong friends with. The staff at the house sincerely cares about the well-being of its residents. More times than I can count, the staff members at the Lakehouse went above and beyond their job descriptions just to help guide me through the rough patches on my road to recovery. My experience there was overwhelmingly positive and I'd recommend this sober living facility to anyone who genuinely wants to make a major life change.

COMMENTS:

The liberty house program really speaks for it self the stats don't lie! I tried to get sober many times in the past and could not do it, the house and staff finally got me in touch with the real problems that we're going on in my life. Once I could realize and see the things that I drank and used over I was finally able to work on them. I could speak all day of the examples how i have seen the house work miracles in my life and the life of others, but the best thing I can say is that I was in the house a couple years before I got sober this time, but I simply was not ready. When I was beaten down enough and ready to get clean I knew there was only one place to go so I went back to the house. They took me in with open arms and has now given me a life beyond what I could ever imagine. God bless liberty house and thank you for saving my life!!
