Information on Interventionists
Addiction | Alcoholism | Gambling | Eating Disorders
The vicious cycle of drug addiction, alcoholism, eating disorders and other like maladies is such that, it can trap the user into a pattern and lifestyle that literally disables them from making the conscious choice to stop. Whatever he or she must do to protect their drinking, gambling, using, etc. takes priority over family, friends, work, health and so on. It is times like these that often call out for the guidance and services of a professionally trained addiction interventionist.
You may have seen the television shows that depict an interventionist with the family sitting in the living room while confronting their loved on his or her life threatening behavior. While this depiction does a relatively good job in capturing as much reality as possible, given the fact that it’s on television, the process can be quite in-depth. Ultimately the goal is simple, to get the individual into an appropriate treatment facility immediately.
The intervention process involves careful planning and wholehearted involvement on the part of friends & family whom have been most impacted by the individual’s damaging lifestyle. The role of the interventionist is integral for many reasons. First of all, this is a very stressful and emotional experience for all involved and it is critical to have a highly trained, objective guide within the process in order to follow through with the plan and whom will not be diverted by human emotion. The interventionist also has a unique expertise in knowing how to best match the client with a treatment center most able to meet the individual’s unique recovery needs. There are many beneficial factors to hiring an interventionist and each situation must be handled by one whom is well trained and highly experienced.
Hiring an intervention company is typically a very short-term event. He or she will usually arrive a day or two prior to the scheduled intervention in order to coach the family and friends in how the process takes place. Each person is told to write something warm, compelling and from the heart that will be read to the addict/alcoholic in an effort to propel them into getting the help they so desperately need. There is usually a trial run of some sort prior to the actual event. Emotions can run high, feelings might get hurt, boundaries may be crossed and so on, but this is potentially a life or death situation.
