Sober Living Homes and Recovery Houses in Kentucky
Louisville • Lexington • Owensboro • Bowling Green • Covington • Hopkinsville • Richmond
Kentucky happens to be in a part of the country that unfortunately, offers limited resources when it comes to sober living and transitional housing options for drug addicts and alcoholics. However, a benefit resulting from the smaller array of options is that, often times their extent of available recovery services go beyond that which is traditionally seen at sober living residences.
The primary cities within the State of Kentucky consist of; Louisville, Lexington, Owensboro, Bowling Green, Covington, Hopkinsville & Richmond. Many recovery residences of this sort try to maintain a relative close proximity to nearby towns in order to help promote things like job hunting, attending school, utilizing public transportation and so on. Addicts and alcoholics new to sobriety often times are in a position of having to pick up the pieces from their past, which means that having the conveniences offered in nearby cities and towns is beneficial. Likewise, this also means an added number of nearby outside 12-Step support groups such as AA and NA. On the other hand however, there is also a growing number of more integrative sober living homes that take on more of a treatment-type approach that can almost serve to be an affordable alternative to traditionally higher costing drug rehab centers. These locations offer much more structure and oversight, as well as a typically more qualified staff and sometimes nicer accommodations.
keep in mind that the terms describing these transitional residences vary from state to state and region to region. In Kentucky it’s common to hear terms like “Recovery House” and “Sober Living Home” when describing these locations. Sometimes you might hear them being described as “Halfway or 3/4 House” but that’s more common throughout the East Coast. Nonetheless, the reviews, information and testimonials on this page are designed to help you make the best decision for yours or your loved ones recovery needs. A few additional point of interest to keep in mind prior to choosing the right sober living home might be::
- How structured is the sober living residence? Is there some type of phase or transitioning system that provides for more and more freedom over time?
- Is 12-Step meeting attendance required, and if so then how many per week?
- What does the monthly cost include?
- What types of recovery support groups are in the immediate vicinity?
- Is the house male, female or coed?
- How does the physical location work for you in terms of proximity to your job, job search, school, family, social and/or public services, local 12-Step meeting attendance, etc?
- Is there a constant onsite management presence at the residence?

The Liberty Ranch for Women saved my life. I now have over 4 years of sobriety thanks to the help and support staff and the residents have provided me. When I got to the Liberty Ranch I thought there was no hope for me. This is where they stepped in and guided me though what I needed to do. Teaching me the tools I needed to live life on life’s terms. If it was not for the guidance I received and the patience given I would not be sober today. Not only did they show me love and compassion going through the house, but they continue to support me even after graduating. I would recommend The Liberty Ranch for Women to anyone who is suffering from drug and alcohol addiction.
LIBERTY RANCH SOBER LIVING FOR MEN

ENTERED SOBER LIVING FOR: Alcohol & Drug Addiction
LEVEL OF STRUCTURE (min/med/high): High
LENGTH OF STAY: 1 Year
OVERALL EXPERIENCE (1-5): 5
Finding the Liberty Ranch saved my life. I was an alcoholic and a drug addict. I eventually found the strength to admit to my family the truth and ask for help. Through the advice of a friend that had gotten sober at the Ranch, I agreed to go there. Through a very structured system of accountability, they were able to show me how my behavior led to my drinking and using. In introducing me to the 12 step program, the Ranch showed me how to meet other alcoholics, work my program, and stay sober and alive. Before coming to the Ranch in 2007 I was a 24 year old spoiled kid, living off of my parents and anyone else who I could manipulate, contributing nothing to society, unemployed, miserable, and slowly destroying my body, mind, and soul with substances.
Now, in 2014, I am a 30 year old man with 6+ years clean and sober, living a life that I never dreamed was possible for me. Since I left the Ranch, I have obtained a Master’s degree, work a job I love (and can make a small difference in peoples’ lives), bought a home, am happily married, and have serenity. None of this would be possible if I didn’t spent time at the Ranch. The Ranch is not like any other recovery home in the country. There is no other place where staff is willing to go so far to help people that have been written off as helpless.
